A Night of Discovery: ReadyRosie Family Science Night at the Aquarium of the Pacific

The Mayor’s Fund for Long Beach is pleased to have once again partnered with the Aquarium of the Pacific for an evening of discovery and learning during our February 8th Family Science Night. The event was expected to bring together around 2,000 families, children, and individuals from across Long Beach for an evening highlighting the beauty and mystery of marine life, while also providing a fun, engaging, and educational experience for our city’s children and families alike.

Executive Director for the Mayor’s Fund Karissa Selvester Awarded NLC Youth Excel Fellowship for Advancing Education in Long Beach

Executive Director Karissa Selvester, leading the Mayor’s Fund for Long Beach, has been honored with the National League of Cities Youth Excel Fellowship. This accolade celebrates her leadership in pivotal education areas and her efforts to improve community economic security through strategic education and career pathways for youth. Through the fellowship, we aim to enhance community economic security by developing and implementing strategies that provide access to quality resource,s with a focus on high-wage jobs in STEM fields for BIPOC and Opportunity Youth. This fellowship recognition cements the commitment we have to leveraging partnerships and innovative programs for educational and career success for Long Beach’s youth.

Embracing the Future: Mayor’s Fund Unveils New Name and Expanded Mission

The Mayor's Fund for Education has been rebranded as the Mayor’s Fund for Long Beach, marking a significant expansion of its mission to encompass a broader range of services beyond traditional education. Announced during the Mayor's 40th birthday and the organization's anniversary celebration, this change reflects its holistic approach to supporting the well-being of Long Beach's children, youth, and families. The newly renamed Mayor’s Fund for Long Beach will continue its collaboration with community, civic, and educational partners, focusing on early childhood education, college/career readiness, and youth engagement to address the community's most pressing needs.

 

The Mayor’s Fund for Long Beach announces the Long Beach Early Learning Hub

“The Hub” was Developed in collaboration with the Long Beach Unified School District, Long Beach Early Childhood Education (ECE) Committee, City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services, and numerous community stakeholders including the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and The Nonprofit Partnership. 


Beginning August 28, 2023, this revolutionary way to locate, apply for, and enroll in childcare will be available to local families via a new centralized system.

Mayor’s Fund to keep supporting Long Beach families and educators via CARES act funding

The Mayor's Fund for Education and the Nonprofit Partnership to partner for the acquisition and distribution of additional supplies being made available via CARES Act funding as part of their COVID response. With support from the CARES Act funding, it is estimated that the Mayor’s Fund will be able to acquire and distribute over 822,000 diapers, nearly 23,000 packs of wipes, and more to local families.
